Michael Newton Receives Saltire Award

Newtown recieved Saltire AwardDIL/CDHI Technology Lead Michael Newton is the inaugural recipient of St. Andrews University Scottish Heritage Center’s Saltire Award for “outstanding contributions to the preservation and interpretation of Scottish history and culture.” The Scottish Heritage Symposium marks its 25th year convening in Laurinburg, North Carolina, the site of the largest settlement of Scottish Highland immigrants in eighteenth-century North America.

This award recognizes Dr. Newton’s innovative and prolific research in the field of Scottish Studies. His latest book, The Naughty Little Book of Gaelic, was also launched at the Scottish Heritage Symposium. The book is the first detailed discussion of “adult” texts in Gaelic.
